"We visited the Tung Wah Hospital this day
and found everything in good order. The patients appear to
be well satisfied with their treatment.

*I have this day visited all of the wards in
the Hospital.
V. Note 1.
In "Kat" Ward I found a boy with a small scalp wound dressed with the usual Chinese plaister, the re- sult being that the matter was pent up and the tissues round about inflamed, the patient thus being exposed to the risks of erysipelas and blood poisoning. If the wound had been dressed with hot water it would have healed in a few days. A lao like this surely should not be allowed the option of treatment according to so-called Chinese methods.
V.Note 2.
"On removing the mats covering the boards which are used as mattresses these (the boards) were found in many instances extremely dirty, stained with dressings from wounds and in some cases infested with bugs. These should be planed down and kept clean by constant scrubbing with Carbolic lotion and hot water.
V. Note 3.
"In several of the wards, more especially the
wards called "Fuk" and "Ko Fong*, there were bed pans con-
taining foeces, this should not be allowed.
